ENVIRONMENT

From the Owners:

“With our extensive renovation and modernisation, including the addition of numerous modern appliances, comes a responsibility to ensure our impact on the environment as a result of our day-to-day activities remains as minimal as possible.
Solar Power

Terragong is powered by an extensive 9.81kW solar PV Grid Connect system. During ideal weather, the 30x SunPower 327W modules produce enough electricity to fully power the house and swimming pool plant as well as feed power back into the municipal grid.

Water Usage

We use rain water to flush all toilets, for laundry and to irrigate the gardens (showers and sinks are connected to mains water).

Waste

We treat our own sewage output onsite using a FujiClean wastewater treatment system, using treated effluent to drip water the farm orchard (underground dispersement).

We compost all suitable food and garden waste – with the help of our chooks it makes wonderfully rich mulch for the gardens.

We recycle all our glass, paper, cardboard, metal and plastics and attempt to reduce packaging containers where possible.

We use biodegradable, phosphate-free detergents and cleaning products and line-dry laundry (weather permitting).

Heating & Cooling

Rather than air-conditioning, we rely on ceiling fans and open windows (with fly screens) to provide cooling ventilation and cross-breezes.

In winter, low-voltage Nobo panel heaters are used throughout the guest rooms and public rooms.

Underfloor heating in bathrooms and the family & dining room is powered by electricity generated by our solar array.

Food & Produce

We support local artisan producers wherever possible. We shop weekly at the Kiama Farmers’ Market at Black Beach (Wednesday afternoon’s from 2pm to 5pm).

Tesla Destination Charging Program

In April 2016, Terragong became the first site in the Illawarra and the New South Wales South Coast region to join the Tesla Destination Charging program, with the installation by Paul Dunne of Dunne Solar of a Tesla charging station. The High Power Wall Connector is powered by Terragong’s extensive 10kWh solar array, and we are pleased to announce that Tesla-driving guests are welcome to recharge their vehicles free of charge during their stay at Terragong.”

What we love…

Terragong 1858 offers a bed and breakfast experience unsurpassed in the region for luxury and exclusivity, in a relaxed and genuinely welcoming setting. We love to see such a beautiful old home being used as it is meant to be – spoiling guests in a truly hospitable fashion!

Built in 1858 as a gentleman’s residence, Terragong is a lovingly refurbished Colonial Georgian home which sits on 12 acres of lush gardens and pastures in the heart of the verdant Jamberoo Valley on the New South Wales South Coast.

The stunning Terragong 1858 Bed and Breakfast offers a variety of beautiful spaces. In addition to your comfortable bedroom, numerous guest areas are yours to enjoy – the farmhouse Kitchen & Lounge, the Library, the Garden Room and wrap-around Verandah. Feel free to explore and discover a cozy corner that suits your mood – a quiet spot on the shady verandah to while away the hours with a good book, or grab a partner and settle down to a game of backgammon or cards in the Library or Garden Room.

If you’d prefer to spend time outdoors, then a stroll around the extensive gardens or a rousing game of croquet might be in order – if you can bear to leave the comfort of your sun lounger by the pool!

Rates include an excellent two-course cooked breakfast served in the farmhouse kitchen between 7.00am and 10.00am, as well as complimentary wine and nibbles, served for an hour each afternoon.

The three stylish guest bedrooms are beautifully appointed, offering luxurious amenities for the perfect escape. All feature antique four-poster queen-size beds.

Each room has a unique, tasteful and sophisticated décor – with original period details such as pressed metal ceilings and sash windows, as well as vintage, designer and antique furnishings.

All guest rooms are located on the ground floor in the accommodation wing, adjoining the farmhouse kitchen, lounge and dining area; level access from the rear of the house means there are no stairs to contend with for the less mobile or wheelchair-dependent guest.
