THE ENVIRONMENT
“Avalon comprises 400 acres of rolling pasture, pristine rainforest and pasture and 4 kilometres of river frontage. Adjoining State Forest means that our nearest neighbour is 4 kilometres away – feel your soul soar at the space and freedom.
We are solely solar powered, all water comes from sky or river, we have no rubbish collection so all food scraps go to pigs or chooks, all green waste is composted and once or twice a year we fill the trailer with anything else including building waste from our on site building projects. We have a cedar cabin, re-fitted glamping caravan, tiny house and camp sites. We use mainly our own timber in building projects, or local from the local timber mills, we use low VOC paints, cleaning products and all our best buys for our accommodation are from charity shops, eBay etc. We also have pristine rainforest environment with creek and waterfalls.
Our Platypus population is extraordinary and testament to the crystal clear waters – approximately one Platypus every 50 metres. Take the time to sit patiently and wait for the platypus to pop up. Koalas are rarer and more tricky to spot – but they are there so keep looking up! Plenty of goannas, wallabies, water dragons, Bass, turtles, frogs, parrots of all shapes and sizes, wedge tailed and sea eagles, so bring a camera and binoculars if you have them.”

What we love…
Avalon River Retreat is the perfect place to rest body and soul. A peaceful farmstay oasis on the banks of the Ellenborough River, guests can get away from the rat race and relax before returning refreshed to reality.
Tell me more…
Just over five hours from Sydney and six from Brisbane, 80 minutes inland of Port Macquarie. Watch the eagles soar, platypus play, and listen to the gentle burble of the river washing your cares away. Rest and read or fish for Bass, explore the pastures and bush, and meet the pigs and chooks. You can feed the alpacas, cuddle a cow, pet the horses and feast on farm fresh food.

Avalon River Retreat is a world away from care. A place to rest and restore body, mind and soul. For singles seeking space, couples looking for a place to love and be, or families wanting to share the wonders of the natural world with their children. Avalon will reconnect you to the land, the circle and cycles of life, the miracle of Mother Nature and recalibrate your place in the infinitessimal scheme of things.
Your accommodation is a one bedroom cedar cottage (with additional single mattress), overlooking the main river flat where the alpacas spend most of their time. Close enough to the farm house to come and enjoy feeding times (350m) but far enough away to enjoy the peace of a world of your own. Perched on a hillside, The Tree House has panoramic views of The Milky Way and beyond – leave the curtains open and drift off to sleep gazing at the heavens.
Tipis and Yurts are sacred because they replicate the spiral dance of all life and touch the ground with a circle. The land loves to have circles danced, walked, run or drawn on her and flourishes with circle work. Sleeping in a tipi isn’t like camping because the tipis are more like hotel rooms than tents. The owners believe you can sleep under canvas and still enjoy luxuries like pure cotton sheets, duck down or wool pillows, pure wool blankets and doonas.
